PrintSide Effects

Rituxan® (Rituximab) may have side effects that you should be aware of. Common side effects that may occur within 24 hours of the first infusion include:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Shakes
  • Itching
  • Hives
  • Sneezing
  • Swelling
  • Throat irritation or tightness
  • Cough

Other common side effects include:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Upper respiratory tract infection
  • Aching joints

Serious side effects have also occurred during treatment with Rituxan. These include infusion reactions, kidney problems, severe skin reactions, and Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML).

You should always be mindful of how you're feeling. In the first few weeks after your treatment, seek immediate medical attention if you experience any side effects or symptoms.

In the following months, talk to your doctor if you experience any symptoms of your RA.  Again, a symptom is what helps you and your doctor determine when you'll receive your next course of treatment.

Please see full Prescribing Information and Medication Guide for additional information on side effects.
