PrintHow Rituxan Works

Part of what makes treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA) so difficult is that much of what causes it remains a mystery. What we do know is that RA occurs when the body's immune system attacks the body's joints. And B-cells—a type of white blood cell found in the immune system—are believed to play an important role in causing this attack.

Rituxan works by targeting specific white blood cells, called B-cells.

Unlike other treatments, Rituxan® (rituximab) works by targeting specific B-cells and selectively reducing them in the body. Rituxan also limits the immune system's attack on the joints, and ultimately the pain, symptoms, and joint damage of RA.
