How Rituxan Works
Part of what makes treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA) so difficult is that much of what causes it remains a mystery. What we do know is that RA occurs when the body's immune system attacks the body's joints. And B-cells—a type of white blood cell found in the immune system—are believed to play an important role in causing this attack.
Enter Rituxan
Unlike other treatments, Rituxan® (rituximab) works by targeting specific B-cells and selectively reducing them in the body. Rituxan also limits the immune system's attack on the joints, and ultimately the pain, symptoms, and joint damage of RA.
Side effect information: You should know that Rituxan may increase your risk of infection. Tell your healthcare provider if you experience a nagging cough, fever, chills, congestion, or any flu-like symptoms.
