WHAT IS RITUXAN?
Rituxan® (rituximab) is a prescription medicine used in adults with another prescription medicine called methotrexate, to reduce the signs and symptoms of moderate to severe active RA, after at least one other medicine called a tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitor has been used and did not work well enough.
Looking forward to results
As you begin your Rituxan® (rituximab) treatment, you may be wondering how soon to expect results and how long they will last. In clinical trials, people were treated with Rituxan and methotrexate or methotrexate alone. They also received glucocorticoids. At the time of their first check-up - just 2 weeks after treatment - many of them had seen a significant improvement in their symptoms. Of those patients treated with Rituxan and methotrexate, many saw that same improvement last through 6 months.
Up to 6 months of symptom improvement
Rituxan is the only treatment for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) that provides up to 6 months of symptom improvement from just 1 course of treatment (2 infusions), and can also help protect joints for the long-term by continuing to slow the damage of RA. And the benefits don't stop there. Studies have shown that if you continue to take Rituxan, it can continue to provide that same symptom improvement.
Be mindful of potential side effects
Keep in mind that Rituxan may increase your risk of infection, and people with serious infections should not receive Rituxan. So tell your doctor if you experience a nagging cough, fever, chills, congestion, or any flu-like symptoms.
